1.  Greetings, just when I thought that summer had disappeared we had some beautiful sunny days. I'm beginning to look toward a new season with all that it implies for me. And that is making sure my body is ready for the winter fortified with vitamins and kelp (provides iodine for O blood types). I also like to take Floradix liquid iron and herbs although it's recommended for A's. I'm looking forward to an 11 week Introduction to Teaching course which begins in September. I am hoping this sunny spell stretches well into September. May you enjoy the last of the summer.

2.  Massage :  Medical Research on the Effects of Massage
The Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami has conducted over 90 studies on the positive effects of massage therapy on many functions and medical conditions in varied age groups. Among the significant research findings are enhanced growth (e.g. in preterm infants), diminished pain (e.g. fibromyalgia), decreased autoimmune problems (e.g., increased pulmonary function in asthma and decreased glucose levels in diabetes), enhanced immune function (e.g., increased natural killer cells in HIV and cancer), and enhanced alertness and performance (e.g., EEG pattern of alertness and better performance on math computations). Many of these effects appear to be mediated by decreased stress hormones.

Anorexia: Massage therapy reduced anxiety, depressed mood and salivary cortisol (stress hormone) levels and resulted in decreased body dissatisfaction associated with anorexia.

Back Pain: Massage lessened lower back pain, depression and anxiety, and improved sleep. The massage therapy group also showed improved range of motion and their serotonin and dopamine levels were higher.

Behavior Problem Children: Preschool children with behavior problems who received massage showed less solitary play, and less aggression.

Breast Cancer: Massage therapy reduced anxiety and depression and improved immune function including increased natural killer cell number.

3. Grapefruit is rich in vitamin C and contains pectin, which can help lower cholesterol levels, and bioflavonoids which are thought to neutralize cancer-causing substances.

Freshly squeezed juices may help to cleanse the body by flushing out waste products and harmful toxins. The high acidity levels and simple sugars contained in fruit juice can contribute to tooth and gum problems so rinsing the mouth after drinking is important.
Grapefruit is beneficial to blood types A and AB and neutral to B and O.

5. Home Remedies :

Most of the body's healing processes occur when we sleep. The importance of sleep cannot be over-stated. A good tip for a great night's sleep is to dim the lights an hour or two before you retire. Remember, it's not how many hours you sleep but the quality of sleep that is vital.

For itchy skin, whether from allergic reactions or insect bites, try this Ayurvedic home remedy.
Coarsely chop a small bunch of washed cilantro and put it in the blender with about 1/3 cup of water and blend. Drink the juice and apply some of the pulp to your skin for quick relief. Cilantro is also great for detoxification. So don't wait for itchy skin to add cilantro to your diet.
Cilantro is the leaf of the young coriander plant, Coriandrum sativum, a herb in the parsley family, similar to anise.

For Bladder Infections try one teaspoon of olive oil and one teaspoon of garlic juice mixed in a glass of warm water. This should help eliminate the bacteria responsible for bladder infections. Drink three times a day, before meals. Substitute cranberry juice for the water if the infection is especially stubborn.
