1. Well, here we are at the end of June. Haven't we had some really hot days? My apple trees and many of my shrubs don't enjoy this heat. I've been wondering if I should plant more in the way of tropical plants!! Are we that far into climate change for that? I have recently got a new 3 tier worm farm. Very nice, and much easier to use than the small bucket-type one I had before. A worm farm is a wonderful way of getting rid of kitchen waste (without smell) and also produces absolutely scrummy (for plants) liquid fertilizer.
I wish you all a relaxing and refreshing summer.

2. CranioSacral Therapy (CST)
I recently had the opportunity to attend my aunt who had contracted gangrene and was not expected to survive. She had been in frail care for a number of years by this time and due to glaucoma and macula degeneration eye disease was blind. She tended to live in her own ever decreasing world and her quality of life was not great. The one thing she had control of was her choice to speak or not. My mum and I spoke about the fact that we prepare for birth but rarely do we prepare for death. That may have changed some with diseases like cancer making people more aware of impending death. And, awareness and preparation are not the same.
It was a privilege to be able to give treatments to my aunt - not to aid recovery, but to aid the departure of the soul or spirit with dignity. It was a sad time and a time of remembering, but it was also a time of strength and love. To be there as a comfort to the person, and aware of the bodily processes shutting down is as glorious as witnessing a birth.

4. What Doctor's Don't Tell You : The mind affects the body and its health
Here are a few examples, which show the impact on health of depression, a sense of hopelessness and anger ..... Dr Robert Anderson:
Depression worsens outlook in coronary heart disease patients: In a study of 1,024 heart patients, those who were depressed suffered twice the level of poor health and three times worse quality of life than those who had a more positive attitude (Source: Journal of the American Medical Association, 2003; 290: 215-21).
Depression increases mortality rate after heart attack: In a study of 896 survivors of an acute heart attack, depressed patients were more than three times as likely to die in the first year than those who had a balanced attitude, even though all patients had the same level of care (Source: Psychosomatic Medicine, 1999; 61: 26-37).
Sense of hopelessness causes atherosclerosis: A study of 942 Finnish men found that those who had a 'high' sense of hopelessness saw an increase in artery thickening of nearly 20 per cent compared with those who had a positive attitude (Source: Atherosclerosis, Thrombotic and Vascular Biology, 1997; 17: 1490-95).
Anger can lead to coronary heart disease: People who often get very angry, so that anger becomes part of a personality trait, were nearly twice as likely to suffer heart disease than those whose angry outbursts are infrequent and moderate (Source: Circulation, 2000; 101: 2034-9).
Anger could trigger early coronary heart disease: Anger can cause myocardial ischemia, and it could be an independent risk factor for coronary artery disease. A study of 1,055 men who had expressed or concealed anger or irritability increased their chances of developing heart disease by nearly four times. (Source: Archives of Internal medicine, 2002; 162: 901-6).
Grief can cause a heart attack: A group of 1200 men and 540 women were interviewed a week after suffering a heart attack, and researchers discovered that many had suffered the recent death of a loved one. Researchers estimate that the risk of a heart attack increases 14 times during the first 24 hours after the death of a close family member or friend, and then falls to eight times the risk during the following 24 hours, to six times in the third 24 hours, and then to two to four times the risk for the ensuing month. (Source: Family Practitioner News, 1996; 26: 8).
Social isolation and heart disease: People who had social groups of fewer than three people were more than twice as likely to suffer a fatal heart attack than those whose social groups were larger. Adjustments for income, hostility and smoking did not alter the risk of social isolation. (Source: Psychosomatic Medicine, 2001; 63: 267-72).
Relaxation reduces your risks: And finally, to end on a more positive note, researchers have discovered that people who learn relaxation and breathing techniques can reduce their risks of coronary heart disease. Researchers tested the theory on a group of 192 people aged between 35 and 64 who had high cholesterol, and who were smoking more than 10 cigarettes a day. Half were given information about stopping smoking and reducing animal fats in their diets, and they also participated in eight one-hour lessons on breathing, relaxation and meditation, while the rest were just given information about smoking and diet. Those in the meditation group had lowered blood pressure, and had fewer cases of angina, coronary heart disease, and fatal heart attack. (Source: British Medical Journal, 1985; 290: 1103-6).

P.S. Research into massage also shows similar results to those above in `Relaxation reduces your risks'. I believe that any therapy you fancy has the same affect.

5. Home Remedies : Apple Cider Vinegar
I found the following information on the web.
Apple Cider Vinegar is one of the oldest, most powerful, healing home remedies imaginable.
If you can get over the taste of apple cider vinegar, you will find it one of the most important remedies in healing the body. Apple Cider Vinegar has a number of reported uses: complete relief of pollen, food and pet allergies. It cured acne, high cholesterol, chronic fatigue, candida, acid reflux (!), sore throats, contact dermatitis, arthritis, gout and is a general energy tonic. Apple Cider Vinegar also breaks down fat and is widely used as a dietary supplement to lose weight. It has also been reported that a daily dose of apple cider vinegar in water has soaring blood pressure under control in two weeks! There are a few caveats to this remedy, however, one of which being that apple cider vinegar ruins the enamel on teeth. [So, if you are considering this remedy, take only once a day and brush your teeth afterwards. You should do the same after eating any kind of fruit, for it too, is very acidic.]

6. Life Coaching
Look ahead to where you're going. Keep in mind why you want to get
there. Your dreams will pull you toward them, if you remember to let them.

Are you spending most of your time working and sleeping? When will you begin to have a life? If you are stuck and want to make changes in your life this is an opportunity to look at setting your goals. A goal that is written is not just a dream.
[You may have heard the story told about a survey of students done in the 1950's and again after 20 years. One of the questions asked whether students had written goals. In the 2nd survey, 3% of the students were worth more than the other 97% combined. This 3% also had better health and better personal relationships. After looking at all the possible reasons why, the only difference researchers found was that this 3% had written their goals.]
Your subconscious is many times more powerful than your conscious mind. It is non-judgemental and will strive to achieve whatever objective you feed into it. So wouldn't it be smart to feed into your subconscious the goals you want to achieve.
One way to do this is to sit down quietly and decide where you want to be / what you want to be doing in 10 years time, then 5 years, 2 years, 1 year and 6 months. Set a target date for your goal i.e. I will retire at 50 or I will own my first house by January 2006. Now imagine how you would feel to achieve your 10 year goal and write that down next to the goal and behind these or similar words I will know that I have achieved this goal when
Also decide how you will reward yourself for achieving this goal and write these or similar words I will reward myself by
. Follow this procedure for all your goals.
Reward yourself according to the goal - your favourite chocolate or buy yourself that book you've been looking at. Rewarding yourself will stimulate enthusiasm for the next goal.
You will also need to keep your goals in your conscious mind. One way of doing this is to read them aloud every day. The best time for this review is first thing in the morning or last thing at night.
.. So dream, believe and take action.
