Greetings,
We've just celebrated Spring Equinox (those of us who look forward to seeing a lot more of the sun anyway). This is my favourite time of the year, not just because it heralds summer, but because of the magic of budding new life all around me. It does mean a resumption of the lawn mowing, which Dale always greets with a groan, and weekends of digging, planting, pruning, watering etc. It also means that I see my neighbours again, usually over the hosepipe, and catch up on their lives, the house gets aired and my spirit comes out to play. Time to put into action all those dreams and ideas conceived during the long nights of winter.
What sunshine is to flowers, Smiles are to humanity.
Joseph Addison
This was sent to me some years ago. So long ago now that I can't remember who sent it.
People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. When you figure out which it is, you know exactly what to do.
When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed outwardly or inwardly. They have come to assist you through difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally, or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend, and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up or out and force you to take a stand. What we must realise is that once our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and it is now time to move on.
When people come into your life for a SEASON, it is because your turn has come to share, grow or learn. They may bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never known or done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it! It is real! But, only for a season.
LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons: those things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson. Love the person or people in question (and in the way that is right for them), and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life.
It is said that love is blind, but friendship is clairvoyant.

Some interesting research
Quotation from a research paper on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) by John Upledger, DO, OMM.
"PTSD and the Usual Stress Response
The natural stress response is what the body, mind and spirit accomplishes in order to provide short-term survival in an acute situation that is potentially detrimental or life-threatening. A stress experience alters multiple physiologic systems. If these alterations persist, they may alter the stress responses that take place in future traumatic and/or threatening situations.
The most popular concept of stressors involves serious accidents, sexual abuse, veterans' combat experiences and other acute situations. It is also common to think about chronic stressors: a job that irritates you, but you have to do it to survive; an unfulfiling marital relationship; a traffic jam that makes you late; road-rage demonstrations; and so on ad infinitum. Other situations that are not thought of as stressors by most of us are things such as excessive exposure to heat or cold; barometric pressure changes; magnetic and electric field changes; nutritional deficiencies, toxins in water, air, food, etc; minor infections (bacterial, viral, fungal, parasitic, etc); cuts and bruises; and even excessive exercise. The list goes on and on.
Fear Memories
Fear memories require special proteins that are synthesised in the amygdala. Each time a fear memory is retrieved it requires reconsolidation. This would seem to be a natural method of self-healing for a great many fear memories. Without it we might be totally consumed by fear.
Since fear memories must be reconsolidated after each retrieval, it would seem that this observation supports the efficacy of re-experiencing the fearsome event and releasing it before it can reconsolidate. It also offers a deeper understanding of why it is so important to get all of the little details of the fearsome experience out into the conscious awareness. It seems plausible that a small overlooked detail of the event could be significant. If this small overlooked, but significant, detail of the fearsome experience is allowed to remain beneath the conscious awareness, it may have the ability to induce the reconsolidation of the original fearful memory either wholly or in part.
SomatoEmotional Release® with Therapeutic Imagery & Dialoguesm has proven to be a drugless and efficacious method of release without reconsolidation of fearful memories. The memories remain, and they become consciously retrievable without the powerful fear that has previously been attached to them."
The Moon à from Moon Magick by D J Conway
Moon Lore: In Medieval Europe and England "Moon's men" were thieves and highway men who plied their trade by night. The current term "moonlighting" is similar, meaning to hold down an additional job.
On seeing a new moon, bow to her and turn over the coins in your pocket. This will bring luck in all your affairs.
Growing Moon, Green Grass Moon, Budding Trees Moon - 14 Mar - 12 Apr. Spring Equinox falls on the 21st. The Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated on full moon (28th) in China. The Roman Festival of Luna, the Moon goddess was celebrated on 31st. The month of March was sacred to the Roman god Mars, hence the name. The goddess Astarte was honoured in a Spring Celebration in Canaan and other Semitic countries. Red eggs were given as gifts to family and friends. The beginning of our Easter egg tradition. The Day of Anahit, goddess of love and the Moon, is celebrated on the 11th. In many central and eastern European countries it is a time to honour the goddess of flowers. This Moon's flowers are the daisy and sweetpea and the herbs are basil and chives.
Hare Moon, Bright Moon, Flower Moon 12 Apr - 12 May. The 15th was the Festival of Bast in Egypt. The Finnish goddess Rauni was honoured on Rowan Witch Day - 1st May. On the 4th the Sacred Thorn (Moon) Tree Day in Ireland; the Hawthorn month begins. The Greek goddess Maia, the most important of the Seven Sisters (the Pleiades) gave her name to this month. The fertility festival of Beltane was, and still is, celebrated on the 1st. In Wales, Creiddylad was often called the May Queen and the maypole and dance is a remnant of this time. The flowers of May are foxglove, rose and broom and the herbs are mint thyme and yarrow.
Complementary Therapies - Acupressure
Acupressure works on the same principle as acupuncture, as was mentioned in the last issue. It is a wonderful safe, self-help tool. If pressure is accidentally applied to the wrong pressure/acupuncture point, the energy will rebalance itself in a day or two with no ill-effects. The contra-indications for use are: don't apply pressure over open wounds, scar tissue, boils, blisters, rashes, varicose veins, inflammation or swelling and there are certain points that must not be used during pregnancy or on people with high/low blood pressure. There are three ways of stimulating the pressure points. Calming, tonifying and dispersing. To tonify or nourish Qi apply stationary pressure with thumb or finger perpendicular to the point and hold for 2 minutes. To disperse Qi apply moving pressure in a circular motion or pumping in and out of the point for 2 minutes. This encourages the smooth flow of Qi.
This issue looks at STRESS AND TENSION. In Chinese medicine tension is blocked Qi.
Disperse Liv 3 allowing stagnant Heat Energy in the upper body to descend.
Disperse LI4 to release tension in the jaws, neck and shoulders, assisting Qi to descend and clear Heat. CAUTION never use this point during pregnancy.
Disperse GV20 to clear tension in the head and cloudy thoughts, and raise pure, clear Qi. For immediate relief put a drop of Light Heart Peace in a Storm (crisis remedy) on this point. CAUTION never use this point if the recipient has high blood pressure.
Liv3 - in the furrow on the top of the foot between the 1st and 2nd toes where the bones merge.
LI4 - in the web between the thumb and index finger on the back of the hand.
GV20 - in the middle of the top of the head, between the ears.
Meridian key: Liv - liver; LI - large intestine;
GV - governing vessel
About Yoga Dale Spence ND, DO, BWY Dip
There are many different types of yoga, and many different traditions and approaches to practising it. Is one right and another wrong? I don't think so. One fundamental principle of yoga, common to most traditions, is to recognise and become aware of our current condition and position. Having seen that, we can then develop from there onward. That really is the starting point - that and the desire to progress. We are all so different, with different body conditions, personal histories and temperaments. We will all have different starting points. We can generally find a practice from the yoga repertoire to meet our current needs. The aim of this series of short articles is to go into some of these.
Another fundamental principle of practice is that yoga is not competitive. It is a road of personal development, that starts with becoming aware of the here and now - the place and condition we are currently in. Then progress from there. If you judge yourself against another, it is all too easy to either get discouraged, or become proud. Imagine your feelings at being in a yoga class, watching the person next to you easily touch their toes, while you can barely reach your knees. Discouragement is easy, also pushing too hard is easy - but not conducive to safe progress. You are on your road - they are on their road. As you continue the practice, working at your own pace, with awareness in the present moment, you will steadily progress. Come tomorrow, you will have a history of actions that will inevitably one day bear fruit.
Body Parts
The Zygomae - Latin for cheek bone.
The zygomae begin to ossify (become bone) 8 weeks after conception. They make up the inferior (lower) and lateral (outer) margins of the eye orbit, creating `eyeguards'. They articulate with 4 bones of the cranium - the temporal, sphenoid, frontal and maxilla. Five muscles attach to it. The zygomae help protect the temporal lobes of the brain and the pituitary gland (the endocrine glands leader). They also give cover for the underlying tendon of the temporalis muscle, the greater wings of the sphenoid and the lateral margins of the orbit. The zygomae are frequently traumatised in the countless falls of childhood.
The energetics of the zygomae are the eagle's beak, war paint, pride in appearance. They are the upper realm of the throat chakra and provide feelings of strength and protection. "Taut zygomae may indicate an individual who has become rigid within his own being, manifesting brittleness in life. "The zygomae act as strong governors of maxillae and sphenoid movement."
Useful to treat them for sinusitis; before and after orthodontic work and whenever the maxillae are impacted, however minimally; and after all facial trauma.
