1. I have finally put in my winter pansies and violas. I discovered that I have inadvertently bred snail farm quantities of snails and slugs when I decided to go green and use no bait. The little perishers are loving this mild weather too and noshing their way through my plants. Even my aloe has found itself on the menu.
Just a reminder that if you haven't begun your winter supplement routine this is a good time to do it. I also think it's really important to keep your kidney area warm in winter. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), this important organ involves all physiological functions that include the kidney-urinary system plus the endocrine systems and especially the adrenal glands.
Thank you for sharing this email with your friends and colleagues. As well as forwarding to your friends, you may reprint any tip in your newsletters and message boards providing you include full authorship, copyright, and subscription information.

2. CranioSacral Therapy (CST) : Depression
Depression, also called unipolar mood disorder, affects emotions, thinking, behavior and physical well-being. It occurs most often in people between the ages of 25 and 44, and is characterized by symptoms that last at least two weeks.
Stressful life events and genetic predisposition can both be causes of depression. Some factors that can put you at risk include a family history of depression, past or present alcohol or drug abuse, age (onset usually occurs under the age of 44), having just had a baby, and other stressful events such as loss of a loved one or lack of a social support system.
Signs & Symptoms : Individuals experiencing depression may exhibit some or all of the following symptoms:
Feelings of worthlessness
Self-criticism
Inappropriate guilt
Significant weight loss or gain
Lack of or excessive amounts of sleep
Hyperactivity or inactivity
Fatigue or loss of energy
Poor concentration
Frequent thoughts of death or suicide
Therapeutic Approach : In addition to conventional medical measures, which may include medication and counseling, modalities such as CranioSacral Therapy can play an important role in a comprehensive therapeutic approach.
CranioSacral Therapy can be particularly helpful in addressing areas of restriction in the body that can affect energy levels as well as circulatory and endocrine systems, thus enhancing relaxation. Related SomatoEmotional Releaseä techniques can also help release pent-up emotions that may be contributing to feelings of depression.

3. Massage
Bulimia: Bulimic adolescent girls received massage therapy 2 times a week for 5 weeks. Effects included an improved body image, decreased depression and anxiety symptoms, decreased cortisol levels and increased dopamine and serotonin levels.
Field, T., Shanberg, S., Kuhn, C., Fierro, K., Henteleff, T., Mueller, C., Yando, R. & Burman, I. (1997). Bulimic adolescents benefit from massage therapy. Adolescence, 131, 555-563.
Burn in Adults: Massage therapy sessions given prior to debridement (skin brushing) decreased depression and anger, and the subjects appeared less anxious during behavior observations and reported less pain. Lower pulse and cortisol suggested lower stress levels.
Field, T., Peck, M., Krugman, S., Tuchel, T., Schanberg, S., Kuhn, C., & Burman, I.(1997). Burn injuries benefit from massage therapy. Journal of Burn Care and Rehabilitation, 19, 241-244.
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: Immediately following massage therapy depressed mood, anxiety and stress hormone (cortisol) levels were reduced. Following 10 days of massage therapy, fatigue related symptoms, particularly anxiety and somatic symptoms, were reduced, as were depression, difficulty sleeping and pain. Stress hormone (cortisol) also decreased and dopamine increased.
Field, T, Sunshine, W., Hernandez-Reif, M., Quintino, O., Schanberg, S., Kuhn, C., & Burman, I. (1997). Chronic fatigue syndrome: Massage therapy effects on depression and somatic symptoms in chronic fatigue syndrome. Journal of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, 3, 43-51.

4. Home Remedies
Honey remedy for skin blemishes. Coat the blemish with a dab of honey and cover with a plaster. Honey kills the bacteria, keeps the skin, sterile, and speeds healing. Works overnight.
Quaker Oats for fast arthritis pain relief. Mix 2 cups of Quaker Oats and 1 cup of water in a bowl and warm in the microwave for 1 minute, cool slightly, and apply the mixture to your hands for soothing relief from pain.

5. Life Coaching : Self-talk
Self-talk is something everyone does. Self-talk is the automatic internal dialogue we all have and it is capable of being controlled. It is used in the fields of sports psychology, sales training, and brain research.
These thoughts we have about ourselves and our lives have a direct effect on every aspect of our lives from finding a parking to learning a new skill to healing and can affect how we are feeling, our confidence and self-esteem. Like anything, thoughts can become habits and negative thinking can be a hard habit to break.
Some doctors even agree that patients usually heal as quickly or as slowly as they (the patients) expect to.
The first step to controlling your self-talk is to make a rational and conscious decision to think differently, interpret a situation more positively, use positive associations, and be your own affirmative and constructive best friend.
Reprogram your self-talk by repeating positive affirmations until you begin to get a good sense of what positive thinking really sounds like and/or you begin believing that they are true. Be creative and use other methods to `get' the message to your brain/body such as visual, kinaesthetic (touch), and reading and writing. [Along with oral these are the learning styles that we all fit into as recognised by educators, psychologists, trainers etc.) Your emotions, perceptions, and behaviours are shaped by your most dominant thoughts. It almost seems too simplistic.
State affirmations in the positive. To say "I don't eat fatty foods," only focuses your attention on the behaviour you want to avoid. Instead say "I eat nutritious foods."
Make affirmations short and easy to remember. Catchy slogans stay with us longer. Repeat your positive affirmations often and positive thinking will become routine.
To maintain positive self-talk, fill your mind with uplifting ideas. Recognise your strengths. Comfort yourself when things go wrong. Let your self-talk be like the soothing, supportive words of a friend, or mentor. As you improve your self-talk, commit to changing your actions accordingly. Lasting accomplishments come when we change our behaviours as well as our thinking.

6. Bladderwrack and kelp have anti-Candida activity, part of this is direct and part is due to the high content of fructose these seaweeds contain. Stinging nettle root also has strong anti-Candida activity.
As a general rule, blood type B is most plagued by chronic or recurrent urinary tract infections. Type AB is next on the susceptibility list, followed by type A's (O's are the most protected so less likely to be plagued by UTI's).

Indigo Children: some useful Information
The first person to identify and write about Indigo Children was Nancy Ann Tappe in 1982. (Understanding your life through Colour). She called them Indigo because that was the Life Colour that she could see - which for her identified their mission on the earth.
She saw four types with specific purposes:
Humanist: Social, hyperactive, love reading: they are/will be the doctors, lawyers, teachers, salesmen, politicians.
Conceptual: more into projects than people, prone to addictions, like to control: engineers, architects, designers, astronauts, pilots, military officers.
Artist: creative and artistic: whatever activity they are in they will be on the creative side.
Interdimensional: will bring the new philosophies and religions, can't tell them anything, often large build, don't fit in like the other types and can be bullies.
Indigo children/youth are on the planet with a special mission for these times. They need our help. If you are interested in learning more about them and how we can help them Ann Whittle gives talks/workshops on these very issues. She will come to any group in the South of England for a nominal fee to cover expenses. Tel: 01252 834784 for more details.
